Automated trading bots are making fortunes on Polymarket

Recently I have been trading Bitcoin and Ethereum up and down markets as part of Hive's $10,000 trading contest. To be honest, I never paid much attention to these up down markets because I did not really like the user interface, but because I needed high and quick returns for the contest, I decided to trade these markets and what immedeatly struck me was the incredibly fast movements of the prices and speed of orders placed in these markets.

I had the Bitcoin chart open on my second monitor and the Bitcoin up down market on my main monitor. Before the Bitcoin price moved, my orders already got sniped and I was left holding essentially worthless UP shares. That made me wonder, are these real users trading or just bots taking money from normal traders like me. When I was trading on normal exchanges like Binance and ByBit, I never felt like I was battling bots filling my orders, because you do not see the activity of these bots.

When you go to the activity you can see hundreds of accounts buying shares multiple times per second. Personally I have never seen that on other traditional Polymarkets. Very cool to see these markets work so efficently. I assume these bots are some sort of market maker bots which really help for liquidity in these markets.

One fascinating bot account trading these markets is @aespakarina. This bot trades hundreds of transactions per minute between Bitcoin, Solana, XRP, and Ethereum up down markets. Their chart is going up only without any retracements.

Aespakarina seems to be market making at high frequency and has done over 10,000 transactions of relatively small order this month.

If you are a developer you should defintely try out making your own bot that can either market make or execute a different strategy. There is not much competition on Polymarket yet and as you can see, it can be very profitable.

Another very good bot is distinct-baguette. Just like the previous bot, it buys all type of crypto up and down markets at very high speeds.

Do these bots add anything to the experience on Polymarket?

To me it seems like quite a lof ot the activity in the up/down markets are bots battling each other. I don't know what I should think of that. Bots are reacting quicker than any human being causing average traders losses while the bots don't seem to add any value to the platform. I don't think they are providing any meaningful liquidity, and if they do, they pull it before the price moves.
